There will be only one Heartland Users Group Meeting in December 2010. The Access SIG will host a Christmas Party on December 15th at 6:30 PM at JCCC, Regnier Bldg, 2nd Floor. There will be refreshments, a door prize, and a Q & A session.

There is a new Access SIG plan for 2011. Lisa Friedrichsen has recommended a book "Access Solutions: Tips, Tricks, and Secrets from Microsoft Access MVPs [Paperback] By Arvin Meyer and Douglas J. Steele. Lisa has ordered four copies and these will be available during the December 15th meeting.

She has chosen a list of topics to be presented during the year. Each of us may volunteer to chose two or three from the list and make a presentation to the Access SIG. These techniques are very new, innovative and will add to our skills set using the Access 2010 platform. If we have 12 volunteers, we will have enough scheduled presentations for the entire year of 2011. Billie Lenz used this technique several years ago and it worked well. This will be discussed and decided during this meeting.

Those of us who have not renewed our modest annual dues of $25 may bring a check or cash to fund our activities for 2011. See you there. Earl Long

When: Tuesday, November 23rd 2010: 6:00PM
Where: Microsoft Offices - 10801 Mastin Blvd., Suite 620 Overland Park, KS 66210

Topic: Enterprise Agility
Abstract: Scrum and XP have found a strong following in the development community. But most non-development groups (such as Web Administrators, Production Support, Security, Testing, and Users/Stake Holders) inside the enterprise are far from agile, nor are they trying to move to be more agile. This session starts with a refresher on Scrum, and then uses real experiences from large enterprise development projects to show how to effectively work with those teams. Instead of trying to "convert" them, we discuss strategies to adapt to their needs while remaining agile in the development realm.

Presenter: Phil Japikse - Telerik
Phil Japikse has been working with .Net since the first betas, and developing software for over 20 years. Phil is a Microsoft MVP and also holds MCSD, MCDBA, CSM, and CSP certifications. Phil is an international speaker and a passionate member of the developer community, speaking at Code Camps and Days of .NET all across the country as well as serving as the Lead Director for the Cincinnati .Net User’s Group.

Phil works as the Patterns and Practices Evangelist for Telerik (www.telerik.com), is a Firefighter/Paramedic, and a volunteer for the Ski Patrol. You can follow Phil on twitter viawww.twitter.com/skimedic and read his blog at www.skimedic.com/blog.

Silvia Siren will do a presentation on "Fun with Pictures"

She talked about cameras and pictures before, this time we'll explore different camera settings and sites that allow you to do some creative things and they're of course FREE!! Bring you camera if you have questions and any ideas you want to share!

The second presentation will take a previous discussion to a practical level, We have discussed a number of programs/utilities in the past to protect/rid our computers of nastiness everybody seems to want to place on our equipment but we may not have covered a methodology for using these aids. Tonight, let us review what types or specific utilities we need but most importantly, put together an approach to keep unwanted programs off our computers. Finally we will discuss an approach method for when our best prevention practices fail to keep the bad guys off our machines and removal is not a simple run a utility or two and the bad guy is gone.

As usual, there will be a question and answer session and other topics discussed you may find interesting so come and bring your expertise.
Also, if you have found some interesting utilities that may be of interest to the rest of us bring those also.

We all know that Quality matters. It’s a top of mind issue for every business, but delivering quality software has always been a daunting task. Often times quality is cut short by project time overruns and multiple rework cycles between development and QA that seem to go on forever.
