This months Agile KC meeting will be at the Pizza Shoppe on 95th St.
in Overland Park (see www.agilekc.org for a map) at 6:30 PM on May 26,
2011
The meeting topic is 'Get Kanban'
Have you ever tried to explain the concepts of minimal work in progress to someone and they just didn't see why it mattered? Or tried to stress the importance of tracking the work as it moves through the development cycle only to see the other team members and stake holders eyes glaze over? Well this month's Agile KC meeting might make the difference you've been looking for. Troy Tuttle has agreed to lead a round or two of the Get Kanban board game.
From their website getKanban.com, the game description is as follows; "The getKanban Board Game is a physical board game designed to teach the concepts and mechanics of Kanban for software development in a class or workshop setting. It has been described as the most effective way to teach Kanban. It’s hands-on, engaging, and fun."
The reviews from those that have played and watched are well received. So if you have some process stragglers lurking about your organization, invite them to the Pizza buffet on the 26th and watch the magic happen. We'll save some time at the end of the meeting to discuss Kanban's fit in different organizations and try to answer any questions that come up.
Troy Tuttle is a pragmatic Agilist, Kanban practitioner, and systems thinker with more than a decade of experience in the software development industry. He emphasizes team improvement through visualization and limiting work-in-process. Troy encourages adopting Agile technical practices including: continuous integration, automated deployments, automated testing (TDD/BDD), and better software design and code quality.
