Meeting Topic:   Coaching Agile Teams

Meeting Learning:

A discussion about agile coaching.  What are the different facets of coaching and what makes some folks more effective than others.

Meeting Description:

Agile enables organizations to transform to meet the needs of today’s fast-paced, changing marketplace. However, doing Agile “well” is often not easy. Adoption of new values, principles and practices is needed and teams frequently need assistance in this transformation. As teams adopt Agile, these new practices often create pressure on other areas of the company (Product/Program Management, HR, Finance, etc.) to operate differently. Agile coaches can often assist organizations in understanding and weathering these transitions.
Kay Harper recently attended the course Coaching Agile Teams by Lyssa Adkins and Michael Spayd. In April’s meeting, Kay will lead the group through a brief, example exercise coaches can use to assist teams. She will then share Michael’s recently-developed model of Agile Coaching, share information on learning tracts that can be followed, and discuss various certification processes available.
(Lyssa Adkins authored the book Coaching Agile Teams: A Companion for Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches, and Project Managers in Transition in 2010. Micheal Spayd is currently writing a book in the Mike Cohn series called Coaching in the Agile Enterprise.)

About the Speaker:

As a manager, mentor and consultant with over 19 years of experience in traditional SDLC and Agile projects, Kay Harper understands the impact that Agile done well can have on organizations. Her passion is to assist individuals and organizations in making this transition. When not working with teams and projects, Kay enjoys music, yoga, tennis (an ongoing challenge), and playing with her pets. Kay can be reached at [email protected].
