Advanced Presentation: Attaching Photos and Information
Mapping
Presenter: Steve Ruvolo
This presentation will show how to attach Photographs to
a record in a database using two different methods, “Attachment” and “File
Path”. The second part will show how to use already formatted addresses to show
the location on BING Live or on GOOGLE Maps.
Steve is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. His
first job was as an Industrial Engineer for J&L Steel Company in Pittsburgh
Pa. As such he developed a Computer Simulation Model of the Steel making
Process using 80 column punch cards on an IBM 360 computer. This was after
failing every computer course he ever took in college.
His next job was running the Family Business, Tasty Bread
products INC.
His first move as president was to install an IBM System
32 Computer, with the stipulation that IBM teach him how to program the
machine. The language at that time was RPG2. Tasty bread could not afford to
hire Computer personnel. Steve wrote A/P, A/R, Inventory, Order Entry and
Product Costing software for that system. Soon after that IBM came out with the
first PC utilizing real Floppy Disks. Steve learned Microsoft Access 1.0
because it was much faster to develop programs on the PC than in PRG2.
Steve has been employed part time by the Lenexa Police
Department for the last ten years. He develops systems to extract information
from their various databases to send to other Agencies and software platforms.
He works as a DBA and as a Web Designer as well as developing Access Programs.
