Scrum Master Considerations

Meeting Learning:

Shahzad Zafar will give a recap of his thoughts and experiences from Agile Dev East

Martin Olson will lead a discussion about the role of Scrum Master with respect to the technical depth they should have about what the team is working on, issues that could arise when a scrum master is external to the team and\or shared across teams and what traits a successful scrum master should possess.

Meeting Description:

The role of the Scrum Master is critical to the effectiveness of a team.  She is often part coach, sometimes process mentor, lean leader and cat herder.  What about teams that have a need for a technically adept Scrum Master.  Finding someone that has the collaboration and technical skills can be a difficult challenge for the organization.  If they can’t find someone with both skills, should they leverage one over the other?  If so, how do they know?

In this month’s lunch meeting Martin Olson will lead the group through a group discussion considering these questions.  We’ll develop and experience report from the attendees and also attempt to identify specific traits that the attendees feel are important for a successful Scrum Master.

About the Speakers:

Shahzad Zafar is a Technical Project Managers at Cerner Corporation and are Agile Champion. He helps facilitate Cerner’s Agile Boot Camp courses and have been leading agile web development teams since 2009.

Martin Olson is an Agile and Lean coach with Silicon Prairie Solutions, Inc.  He has been helping his clients evolve their cultures and practices to become more effective for the last fifteen years.  He can be reached at [email protected]

Hope to see you there!
