  • Unless you've been living on a rock orbiting the 90 trillionth sun in No Man's Sky, you've probably heard about the partnership between Shinra and Google Fiber in Kansas City. But just to recap: Shinra, a cloud gaming company based in NYC, is allowing Google Fiber customers in KC (and KC only!) to apply to be on an exclusive panel to beta test an array of streaming games over a gigabit fiber home connection.
At this truly gigabit-centric edition of 1 Billion Bits: Evolution of the Network, we'll hear from two bit movers at the center of that project who both bring a bevy of expertise into how the network is being pushed to create entirely new virtual experiences for users.
Ashley Hatch is an IP Architect for Google Fiber. He is responsible for all aspects of the Google Fiber network from the peering edge to the subscriber's home router. He has been with Google Fiber for 2 years and has previously worked in large scale data center and university environments.
Colin Williamson, Director of Partnerships, joins Shinra Technologies, Inc. after eighteen years of game industry experience. Originally a contributing editor and columnist for the US’s PC Gamer magazine, he moved to Japan in 1999, where he graduated from Temple University’s Tokyo campus. He then worked as a planner on a number of Xbox and PlayStation 2 fighting games at Tokyo’s Anchor Inc., and joined Square Enix (previously Square) in 2002, where he worked as an editor and project manager. Colin returned to the United States and joined the indie studio 17-BIT, where he worked on the console titles Skulls of the Shogun and Galak-Z. Colin is delighted to join the Shinra team, where he can work on cutting-edge technology, and help talented developers bring amazing content to life.
