Looking for a civic hacking project to volunteer on, a great team of people to join, and/or an idea to run with all the way to the Github endzone?
This is your night.
Monday, Feb. 15, from 6-8pm at the Sprint Accelerator (210 W. 19th Ter) Code for KC will be hosting a Project Rally to recruit volunteers to work on technology projects for community good.
We've got a number of projects that are using open data and open source technology to build apps that will help everyday people. Some projects are already underway, and others are just getting started. The areas we’re focusing on are smart city data, resources for entrepreneurs, city permits, land use and development, health, safety, and neighborhood revitalization.
All projects are looking for people who can crunch data, commit code, conduct UX, project-manage, design, research, inform public policy, and produce content.
Learn About Our Projects
New Projects:
• Abandoned Properties Resource Center: gathering data on properties in need of redevelopment (technology TBD -- by you!)
• Plumber’s Dilemma: helping contractors and other small business owners get the permits they need from the city (tech TBD)
• Vacant-to-Vibrant (V2V): turning vacant lots into green space and commercial/residential development (tech TBD)
• Property Violations Settlement:
Projects Underway:
• NeighborhoodStat: Helping neighborhoods help themselves by giving them easy access to useful data to allow them to identify and track problem areas in their neighborhood. Primary language: Ruby on Rails
• Parcel Assessment Tool (PAT): a tool that can be used to create more transparency in land ownership, zoning and entitlements for specified sites.
• SafeAssist: Emergency response app for police and other first responders to access info about the scene of an emergency before they arrive. Primary language: PHP/Laravel
• CommunityKC: Visualization and management tool for community-development projects. Primary language: PHP/Drupal
• Address-API: Version 2 of this system is being designed for the CodeForKC projects, to make it simple for them to get information about an address in one place. We want to keep our projects from building database with the same data. (Needs: GIS/DB administrator, coders, API)
