  • Modeling analytic or warehouse databases follows an entirely different and far more complex set of rules than the rules of normalization you may have learned when working with transactional systems. Often data warehouses support transactional activities. Thus, you can model warehouse databases with little initial input from users using nothing more than the diagram of the transactional database.
This evening, I’ll share the technique I use to rapidly convert a transactional database to a Kimball methodology analytic database using a real-world case study. As part of the foundation for the talk, I’ll be introducing the fundamentals of data warehousing and modeling star schemas.
The audience for this talk is anybody that would like to make the jump from OLTP to OLAP databases and assumes some knowledge of how databases work such as primary and foreign keys. If you’re looking to get into “big data” this talk is also for you. With the advent of HTAP, in memory databases, and Greenplumb being open sourced, there is still plenty of space for traditional relational databases in the “big data” world.
Presenter will be Bob Wakefield. His CV can be found here:https://www.linkedin.com/in/bobwakefieldmba
