Speaker Bios:
Haakon Roberts has over 30 years' experience working with DB2 on the mainframe platform covering various aspects of systems programming, database administration, software development and support. He is a Distinguished Engineer working for DB2 for z/OS development at the IBM Silicon Valley Laboratory in San Jose, California and the chief technical architect and strategist for DB2 for z/OS Utilities and Tools. He holds several patents and is a leading expert in data integrity, availability, serialization techniques and problem resolution. He is a regular speaker on these and other topics.

Jase Alpers is part of the DB2 for z/OS optimizer development team out of the IBM Silicon Valley Lab.  He is a frequent speaker on DB2 query optimization with more than 15 years experience with DB2 in application development, consulting, DB2 support, and DB2 optimizer development.  Prior to joining the DB2 optimizer team, Jase led the SQL performance and Relational Data Systems DB2 support teams.  Jase's work is focused on driving improvements to DB2 query optimization as well as deep dive analysis and resolution of SQL performance problems.  In the last several releases of DB2, Jase has designed and delivered enhancements to automate identification and management of which statistics to collect for optimal query performance.

Kai Stroh earned a Computer Science degree from the University of Darmstadt and is a mainframe software developer specializing in DB2 utilities for z/OS. He designs and builds innovative DB2 applications and utilities often working onsite or remotely with UBS’ international clients. He easily navigates his way around DB2 dumps and knows how to move data and definitions across DB2 versions, and this includes the unique in-house DB2 subsystems which each have their own little technical adaptations.

Abstracts:
DB2 Utilities Update
IBM DB2 utilities is an area of intense development, delivering major improvements in function, availability and performance. This session will explain not only what was delivered in DB2 12, but also cover recent enhancements that have been delivered recently in the V11 maintenance stream that you can take advantage of today.

What's New from the Optimizer in DB2 11 and 12 for z/OS?

IBM DB2 for z/OS customers expect improved performance in each release, while maintaining the stability and reliability to which they have grown accustomed from the mainframe environment.  DB2 11 and 12 continue this theme with significant attention given to improved plan management, runtime optimizations and new access path choices.  If you are interested in improving performance for your DB2 applications you won’t want to miss this session.

DB2 V12 and Beyond
DB2 12 for z/OS is now available. This session will provide an overview of the significant enhancements delivered in V12 as well as taking a look at what the future holds beyond V12.

Log Enhanced Copies for 24x7 DB2 Refresh/Migration
File system level copies of DB2 tablespaces and indexes are a fast alternative to traditional methods of data movement, such as Unload/Load. One common requirement is to copy production data in a consistent manner without jeopardizing the performance or availability of the production tables. In this presentation, we will explain how DB2 uses its log to ensure the consistency of its tables, atomicity of transactions and durability of data. In a live demonstration, we will see how advanced copy programs can exploit the information on the DB2 log in order to make consistent copies of tablespaces, indexes, LOB and XML objects without stopping the source tables.
