Speaker Bios:
Mark Rader is a Db2 for z/OS specialist in the IBM Washington Systems Center. He has over 34 years of technical experience with IBM, primarily with Db2 for z/OS. He has led many Db2 data sharing implementations and has presented a variety of topics at World of Watson (and Insight, IOD, and Db2 Technical Conference), Enterprise or Edge, System Technical University, IDUG, and SHARE conferences and at regional Db2 user group meetings. He has worked closely with Db2 development in delivering the Early Support Programs for Db2 10, Db2 11, and Db2 12. He is an author of redbooks on Parallel Sysplex application considerations, Db2 data sharing, and Db2 for z/OS distributed function.

Ulf Heinrich is the Director of Solutions Delivery at SOFTWARE ENGINEERING GmbH. He specializes in DB2 operations and performance tuning, focusing on the growing requirement for cost reduction and 24x7 operations. As a consultant at large customer sites, he has implemented database maintenance procedures and recovery strategies, and also experienced the pitfalls of recovery scenarios under realworld recovery pressure. His activities cover EMEA, as well as North America through SE’s U.S. subsidiary, SEGUS Inc. As a member of SE’s Request Board he’s working closely with customers and the development labs.
Abstracts:
Connecting Applications Including Mobile and Cloud with Db2 for z/OS using REST
Although z Systems provides unmatched scalability, security and availability for valuable data, applications have to be able to get to that data. Applications also must be able to access the data from a variety of front-end layers, including cloud and mobile. In this session, you learn about the new DB2 z/OS REST service feature available in DB2 for z/OS 11 and 12.  The new DB2 z/OS native REST feature leverages the existing distributed data facility (DDF) capability. It provides the same class of services you expect when using DDF to access DB2 data. We will also discover how to use z/OS Connect for a DB2 environment. The new REST feature will also be demonstrated to show how easily REST is to use with DB2 z/OS. Included in this presentation is how to use z/OS Connect EE for your DB2 data and how to configure DB2 related APIs.

Db2 for z/OS is in The Cloud! Using z/OSMF to Install, Migrate, and Provision Db2
These are exciting times and you may not realize it, but DB2 for z/OS is in the cloud! You may be thinking, what exactly does that mean? Many of your z/OS colleagues are already using z/OSMF for all sorts of functions. Come learn how to use z/OSMF to manage DB2 software, install, migrate, and provision data for DB2 and what the cloud means to us.

Db2 for z/OS System Profile Monitoring with Real Life Use Cases
Based on actual customer experience, this session describes how to implement DB2 System Profile Monitoring to optimize and manage access by applications or clients using DRDA to interact with DB2 data. What is DB2 System Profile Monitoring? Introduced in DB2 9 for z/OS and extended in DB2 10, DB2 11 and DB2 12 for z/OS, System Profile Monitoring provides a variety of exciting capabilities: ZPARMs at a more granular level than the subsystem, modeling production in test, and managing application specific behavior - all available via online changes!

Db2 12 – 12 months agile production experience with more focus on the Data and less on the base
Short Presentation Abstract:
On October 21st 2016 Db2 12 went GA and several customers have quickly started to take a look at this new version. About a year ago some migrated their production systems and started to gain real life experience.  In July IBM also decided to do a massive rebranding throughout the z – ups, sorry – the Z portfolio. Db2 since then comes with a lowercase b, to place all emphasis on "Data"—your data. With all of this in mind we’ve created this presentation, bundling a year of experience to share best practices and tips for the Data-focused, agile database.

Full Presentation Abstract:
Migrating to Db2 12 is pretty much the same procedure like every 3 years. Then we get introduced to a variety of levels that control new features and functions being delivered and realize that the every-3-years-same-procedure is history. The levels, their dependencies and behavior are a fundamental change, which was implemented to control agile and more specifically it’s associated Continuous Delivery of future upgrades and fixes. As usual, it comes with benefits, but also challenges.
This presentation not only covers customers experiences migrating to Db2 12, but also how the changed maintenance approach has forced them to change existing procedures.
The second part is the daily operation and exploitation using Db2 12 enhancements from customers of different industries. The over-all results aren’t bad, but a major conclusion is also that this Db2 version is significantly different than other versions before. It’s the first agile version with all its pros and cons.
According to IBMs July 2017 announcement, the new database design “represents the elemental nature of Db2 (think periodic table) and connotes the fundamental importance of hybrid data management.". Where does this materialize in our daily work with Db2?
Join this presentation and benefit from the experience of other Db2 customers around the world running Db2 12.

Presentation Outline:
1a – Db2 migration and maintenance – meet the agile and continuous delivery face of Db2.
1b – DB2 Code, Catalog, Function and Application Levels – differences, dependencies and how to successfully manage them.
2 – Running Db2 12 and exploiting new features – what’s hot and how to exploit it best?
3 – Emphasizing the Data – what has changed since July and what are the hybrid aspects managing Data?
4 – Top 10 list of tips and gotchas from a year of Db2 12 production Data bases around the world
