This month, we'll discuss 3 algorithm puzzles, 1 machine learning challenge, and 1 web UI development cue.

This will be a casual meeting. You don't need to have worked on all - or any! - of the challenges before coming. Those of us who have finished solutions can discuss the approaches we took and what we learned along the way, and those who are still working are welcome to talk through any difficulties you're encountering.

The challenges cover a few different fields and difficulty levels so you can focus on the ones most interesting to you.

Here are the algorithm puzzles, from HackerRank:
- Arrays: Left Rotation ("easy" difficulty) - https://www.hackerrank.com/challenges/ctci-array-left-rotation/problem
- New Year Chaos ("medium" difficulty) - https://www.hackerrank.com/challenges/new-year-chaos/problem
- Matrix Layer Rotation ("hard" difficulty) - https://www.hackerrank.com/challenges/matrix-rotation-algo/problem

Here's the machine learning problem, from Kaggle:
- Digit Recognizer - https://www.kaggle.com/c/digit-recognizer/overview

Here's the UI challenge. Take this in any direction you want - the goal is to learn something and perhaps build something that will be fun to show the group. There are no right or wrong answers.
- The most epic Hello World possible - https://codier.io/challenge/rJvB8zdG7

-----

Notes regarding the location, the Plaza Library:
- There is free parking.
- There's a coffee shop inside but it closes at 7pm.
- Food is allowed in the room, but library policy is that colored drinks are not allowed.
- Chipotle and The Mixx are right next to the library if you need to grab food beforehand.

We'll be in the Small Meeting Room instead of the Large Meeting Room this time (the latter had limited availability for the next few weeks).

Look for the room that says "Small Meeting Room" on the door. I'll also put a small sign saying "KC Code Challenge" outside the room. Our room reservation starts at 7pm, we will not be in there earlier. Click here for event

COME PLAY! After the holiday weekend, this is JUST what you need to be inspired! I'm excited to bring this game I played at Agile Games from Derek W Wade and David A. Koontz. We will need at least 10 people to play, so bring a friend! There is a full facilitators guide available, so you can take this interactive game back to your organizations at no cost.

The game is intended for leaders, managers, Scrum Masters, and other organizational change agents working to think about psychological safety. It quickly allows players to experience the effects of directive change such as mandating/training new behavior without consideration for social factors. The workshop offers an alternative approach to encouraging innovation, improvement, or other changes to the status quo.

Context
High-performing organizations innovate. Whether they are leadership teams, software teams, or something else they achieve results by being willing to challenge the status quo.

This can be scary. It's all very well to be ordered to "fail fast" or "think outside of the box," but without the belief that we can do so without looking foolish or being punished we tend to do what everyone around
us is doing.

Ignoring the power of psychological safety is how organizations get stuck. We buy heavy-weight, detailed processes. We set up a chain of command. We define roles and responsibilities in great detail. We run everyone through training classes to ensure compliance with our new method. But somehow, people are even less innovative. More wary. Our fear of threat causes us to become so fixated on doing the new process correctly that we have no thought for performance.

Note: Pizza will be served, and beer is on top. Bring your own beverage if you choose, there are refrigerators!

Instructions will be at the front door for entry. Click here for event

Open to anyone in the area who is interested in developing video games. In order to have a little structure, we'll try to do a couple things each week:

Introduce new members. What have you worked on, game related or not? What do you want to work on next?

Discuss this week's conversation starter. Some article, video or game that we can dig into a little.

Members can present any games they're working on, for feedback or just to brag.

Of course, it's all very informal. The main goal is interesting conversation(s) about our passion.

Looking forward to it!

Having trouble finding time to write your blog post. Me too.

I want to have a dedicated time to work on my blog post each week, I figured it would be great to schedule a time to blog and be with other WordPress people.

Let's get together and write and talk some, but be a support network to get our blog posts written.

This is not a help session, it is to post blogs.

This is not an information session, it is to post on your own website.

I plan on two in the morning per Month on Tuesdays or Wednesdays... Depending on my teaching schedule. Hope you to see you there.

NOTE - The library has free wifi. If you want a secure internet connection, bring your own hotspot - one will not be provided. The library does have secure computers right outside the conference 2 meeting room. The meeting room will change based on availability
