All Developers and Non-Developers Welcome!
We understand Web Developers often come from all backgrounds, and many work in more languages than PHP. Whether you're curious and just starting out, dabble in PHP on the weekends, write custom PHP on a daily basis, work in a framework like Symfony, Zend Framework, Silex, Slim, Laravel, CakePHP or customize CMS products like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla; our goal is that you will find something new, useful and thought provoking.
Park in any visitor space in the parking garage and enter the main building from the west. Follow the signs for PHP User Group and turn right at the security desk. Click here for eventIn 1981 the skywalk at the Hyatt Regency collapsed killing 114 people. As a result of the investigation many of the engineers on that project lost their PE licenses. With software becoming an ever more pervasive aspect of our lives, very real questions are rising about the qualifications one should have before writing medical device software or ensuring the security of systems containing sensitive financial data.
Specifically: Should software developers be required to be certified like engineers?
Join the KC Mobile Developers user group for what promises to be a very lively and interesting debate and discussion! Arguing in favor of the position that developers should be certified will be Alfonso Guerra; arguing the negative will be Dianna Kuhlman. After opening statements, rebuttal, and counter-rebuttal, the debaters will answer questions from those attending before the debate concludes and open conversation follows.

Suzanne Wolff and Heather Freund from Landajob will be our guests in October to help you supercharge your resume and portfolio. They will offer a presentation about do's and dont's in this business. What exactly are you looking for? What do clients want? What impresses them? Graphics jobs have changed so much over the years; what is needed in the current climate? After the presentation they will answer your questions and even listen to your horror stories about other recruiters.
People will be encouraged to bring their updated resume and links to Behance -- or their laptop with portfolio -- to visit with Landajob. It doesn't mean you're looking for a job, but really...aren't we always?
Buck and John will bring equipment to do some LinkedIn/social profile head shots. We did this a few years ago at a KCDesignCore meeting and it was highly successful.
Come enjoy a relaxing, network-with-each-other evening!

Description:
Computer Vision applications typically employ numerical analysis that is very similar to and in some cases borrows from Data Science topics - algorithms such as RANSAC for point detection in an image for instance. This discussion will cover the combination of computer vision, pattern recognition and data science into an image processing pipeline that is designed to help deter fraudulent account access. In particular this pipeline acts as a "weak classifier" among an ensemble of classifiers that are used to determine whether or not an image is valid or whether it is likely to be fraudulent.
Presenter:
Greg Storm
Most recently Greg has been involved with a couple of different Kansas City startups where has helped them research new products, primarily using their data. Before that he had enjoyed a career working with large corporate transaction systems and databases. When he isn't working with data he is usually watching college football.
This meetup is hosted by Bellwethr at WeWork. Be sure to arrive early to be able to find parking and walk to the meetup space.

• What we'll do
Casual discussions about intersectional feminism over various topics. Conversations about how to succeed in life, work and relationships while advocating for yourself and empowering the women around you.
• What to bring
An open mind and willingness to share your experience, ask questions and potentially be vulnerable. If you have additional topics you'd like to discuss, please don't hesitate to reach out or bring them up in the course of conversation.
• Important to know
These conversations aren't about subscribing to a certain set of answers, but instead they're about having honest, organic discussions that help us do and be better every day.

Join us for the September-in-October Kubernetes and Cloud Native Kansas City MeetUp!
During this meetup, you will learn:
• How to keep state out of your microservices by storing it in an always-on, ACID-Compliant SQL database.
• How to run a database in the same K8s cluster as your microservices and have it auto-recover itself the same way your apps do.
• How to run a single database cluster that can run on-prem and across multiple clouds to create a resilient cluster which avoids lock-in.
Get a peek into the architecture for this open-source database and learn how to set it up in your own labs.
Food and drinks provided!
