In 1981 the skywalk at the Hyatt Regency collapsed killing 114 people. As a result of the investigation many of the engineers on that project lost their PE licenses. With software becoming an ever more pervasive aspect of our lives, very real questions are rising about the qualifications one should have before writing medical device software or ensuring the security of systems containing sensitive financial data.

Specifically: Should software developers be required to be certified like engineers?

Join the KC Mobile Developers user group for what promises to be a very lively and interesting debate and discussion! Arguing in favor of the position that developers should be certified will be Alfonso Guerra; arguing the negative will be Dianna Kuhlman. After opening statements, rebuttal, and counter-rebuttal, the debaters will answer questions from those attending before the debate concludes and open conversation follows.

Sponsor: TBD

We'll be in the Seminar Room, on the east side of the main floor next to the cafeteria room. Click here for event
