With the constant race to stay ahead of user needs and experiences, it is easy to lose sight of the users with unique needs. Often, making a site accessible is treated like an enhancement - a nice bonus we may get to…eventually. How can we flip that and make accessibility a central feature of any site? And how can testing serve that goal?

Journey in someone else's shoes during this discussion of accessibility needs and solutions. We will discuss the current state of accessibility and explore methodology for accessibility testing. Throughout we will also discuss methods for facilitating the accessibility conversation and engage all points within the development lifecycle. The majority of the tools discussed require minimal experience and, if you're reading this, you are more than equipped to learn more!

Presenters:

Andrea Johnson - Writer turned coder with a passion for good READMEs. As a technology apprentice at VMLY&R, I'm currently writing automated tests using Selenium, JBehave, Cucumber, Serenity and Jenkins. After learning the hard way, I like teaching the easy way. When I'm not improving my Java skills I love mountain biking. Both involve the possibility of disaster.

John Cardarella – A little mix of Chemist and Teacher, I found a new catalyst in coding. I began my apprenticeship at VMLY&R as an Automated Tester in Selenium with JBehave, Serenity, and Jenkins. I am currently applying what I've learned into a web development role but I enjoy the Automation Practice and do what I can to continue contributing to its growth.
