Bio: Ashley Williams is a Systems Engineer and Lead of the Workers Developer Experience team at Cloudflare. She is the original author of the CLI tool, Wrangler, that connects developers to Cloudflare's edge application platform, Workers. Ashley is also on the Core Teams of the Rust Programming Language and the Rust-WebAssembly Working group. Ashley previously worked at Mozilla and npm, Inc.
Abstract: Over the history of the web, we've seen applications grow dramatically in size and complexity, as they shift back and forth from the server to the client. In this talk, Ashley will introduce the concept of the "edge", both in both the infrastructure and device senses, and explore how Cloudflare's Workers platform enables a new generation of web-hosted applications. She'll demo writing and deploying both JavaScript and WebAssembly applications quickly and easily to Cloudflare's 200+ global PoPs, as well as plans for her team's efforts to enable what she's currently branding as an "edge-first" future.
