In this meetup, we're going to feature two practical approaches to using GPUs to accelerate training AI.

First, Nick will take a workload that trains an image classification neural net and show how you can leverage Nvidia GPUs to see impressive speed improvements without any substantial code changes. We'll go over the differences in model training speed on a local machine or cluster as compared to training the same model in a more distributed environment using cloud resources that can be spooled up or torn down as needed. You'll see the use of popular libraries such as Tensorflow and Keras as well as a popular image classification model ResNet.

Everyone knows that GPUs almost always process data faster than CPUs, but if you're used to the tried and true python libraries based on CPU processing, like pandas and sklearn, you might be hesitant to refactor old code or learn a new library for your data science work to take advantage of GPU performance.

In our second presentation, Jake will demonstrate in an end-to-end ML project how RAPIDS.ai libraries like cudf and cuml have removed the complexities of working with GPUs and how you can take advantage of these libraries.

THIS IS A TWO DAY CLASS - SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. 12pm-4pm

In this class we will be learning how to design our own flanged maces using modern tools.

With the help of vector drawing software and a CNC plasma cutter, students will personalize the design and then learn to cut it out.

From there we will move on to sanding and grinding tools, cut off tools, and wire wheels.

Next, we will be assembling our mace heads using a mig welder. Depending on the available time, we will begin finishing our welding work with abrasive tools.

On day two, we will be learning to operate a wood lathe.
Students will turn their own mace handles to mechanically fit their heads, and add beauty to the handle.

We will also learn about air powered metal finishing tools, which we will use to refine and smooth our welding work and finish our metal surfaces.

At the end of the day, we will assemble our mace and learn about finishing wooden tool handles for longevity, grip, comfort, and beauty.

This class is suitable for ages 16 - 116
Please wear closed toe shoes and bring a long sleeve denim or heavy cotton shirt to weld in. (NO FLANNEL PLEASE)
Feel free to bring drinks etc. as this can be hot work.

WELDING FOR EVERYONE! In the Welding for Everyone class, the instructor will cover basic welding techniques. A variety of useful welding methods will be demonstrated and then repeated by the students. Open to beginners as well as those who have prior experience.

Please bring a long sleeved, preferably denim shirt with you to protect your arms (NO FLANNEL). The class will introduce you to ARC welding with flux-core wire feed (FCAW), MIG (GMAW) and STICK (SMAW) welding. For ages: 18-118 (All materials included) Seating is limited.

Let's learn how Google's Tensorflow can be used to reconstruct time series signals with a Deep Learning Autoencoder to detect tricky anomalies. We'll do this using Python and Spotfire to build a smart analytics application that can be easily used by business analyst.
